Old Orchard Beach – Rebecca Greenlee of the Old Orchard Beach High School class of 2015, has received a scholarship aimed at keeping young business-minded professionals in the area.
The Future Entrepreneur Scholarship, presented by the Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement, is awarded to a graduating senior from Old Orchard Beach High School that plans to major in business, hospitality management, a vocational trade, or related tourism field.
$500 will be awarded from the scholarship selection committee to Greenlee who best represents the goal of the scholarship; to encourage and assist future OOB entrepreneurs, business leaders, and young professionals in achieving their educational objectives. Greenlee will be attending the University of Southern Maine, double majoring in marketing and entrepreneurship with a minor in accounting.
“It’s no surprise that small businesses are the backbone of the Old Orchard Beach economy,” says Justin Chenette, President/CEO of the Saco Bay Center. “We must do everything we can to help encourage and incentivize young people to come back to our community to live, work, and play post college or training.”
In order to raise money for this and subsequent scholarships, the ‘Center’ is holding an upcoming family-friendly event in downtown OOB.
The Seagull Scavenger Hunt will send participants on an adventure discovering hidden gems throughout beautiful downtown Old Orchard Beach as they solve riddles, snap key photographic evidence, and capture special items along the way. Teams are encouraged.
The ‘hunt’ begins at 11am on Saturday August 8th at the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce as the starting point. The team or individual to complete all of the tasks the quickest will win prizes. An after party at Jimmy the Greeks will announce the winner. All proceeds will benefit OOB High School scholarships.
Sponsors of the event include supportive area businesses like The Brunswick, Dickinson’s Candy, Corners Surf Company, Saco Biddeford Savings Intuition, Barreled Souls, Jimmy the Greeks, Crossroads Youth Center, and Chenette Media.
Tickets will be available online prior to the event for $5 HERE.
