SACO – $1,500 worth of grants have been awarded to classrooms throughout Saco, Biddeford, and Old Orchard Beach to promote advancement of the arts.
The Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement, has named Burns School, Loranger Memorial, and Saint James as their 2017 recipients of their Arts Action Fund Grant.
Burns School is using the grant money to fund ethnic instruments for cultural immersion experiences. Loranger Memorial is starting a ukulele program. While Saint James is purchasing a variety of band instruments for students most in need.
“This grant was born out of a desire to help support our educators and their classrooms with needs ever increasing,” says Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement President/CEO Justin Chenette. “In an era of school budget cuts, it’s great to see an expansion of the arts and music in our community.”
Funding for the grant was obtained through the ‘center’s annual benefit concert, the Kidz Winter Jamboree. Rob Duquette, who performs for young kids throughout Southern Maine, will the headliner with his band at their next concert.
The second annual Kidz Winter Jamboree will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th in the Thornton Academy auditorium. Tickets are $5 per person and can be bought prior to the event online at sacobaycenter.org or at the gate.
