SACO – Over $1,000 worth of grants have been awarded to classrooms throughout Saco and Old Orchard Beach to promote an advancement of the arts.
The Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement, has named Saco Middle School, Old Orchard Beach High School, and Burns School as their annual recipients of their Arts Action Fund Grant.

The grant will be used to further those efforts.
“I’m a proud product of the arts in our community,” says Justin Chenette. “Giving the next generation a platform to creatively express themselves puts them on a path to discovering their passions and finding their voice not to mention doing better in school.”
Old Orchard Beach High is using their $400 grant to conduct a world map mural on a community space for all to see after students will research about different cultures.
The Burns School’s entire Strings budget has been doubled due to receiving the final grant. Students will be able to immerse themselves in an extensive Strings workshop to further enhance their musical experiences.
Funding for the grant was obtained through the ‘center’s annual benefit concert, the Kidz Winter Jamboree with Rob Duquette, which happened earlier this year at Thornton Academy.
